The Massachusetts International Academy (MAIA) is for students who have not taken an English language proficiency examination or whose scores on those examinations are insufficient. The program offers two letters of acceptance, one of which is a provisional acceptance to UMass Boston which offers admission on the condition of enrollment in and completion of a certain course of study at MAIA. The other letter is a notice of acceptance to the Massachusetts International Academy.
Once students have completed their preparatory studies at Massachusetts International Academy (MAIA) and passed their examination, they may begin their undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts campus to which they have been accepted without having to reapply.
The UMass Dual Admission Program ensures that every qualified applicant will have an opportunity to begin university studies after completing their language studies.
The MAIA curriculum includes: English instruction, American Culture courses, and numerous activities in the school and community. The curriculum was specially tailored by well-known American experts on education especially for international students, the courses are taught by American instructors in an engaging teaching style, and the small class size allows students to improve their language proficiency quickly.
MAIA’s curriculum allows international students to solve any and all problems they may face in the course of their language studies, beginning with effectively improving students’ grasp of practical English. At the same time, MAIA monitors and addresses problems students encounter with cultural differences during their studies, actively helping them adjust to life in America.
