Formed in 1989, The Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble is the very first professional Chinese music organizations established in Canada. For their first appearance, the ensemble was invited to perform for the Governor General’s Concert at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver. Since then, they have performed in numerous concerts across the globe. They combine technical mastery with a passionate approach, transformating music on Chinese instruments and integrating diverse traditions to bridge cultural frontiers. The ensemble endeavours to consolidate the ties among related instruments by cultivating creative connections. They are ambassadors for Chinese music sharing their traditions in our various concert and educational programs and will continue to inspire contemporary compositions and interdisciplinary projects for Chinese instruments.
